Community Outreach and Event Coverage
North Cypress Sports Medicine Center is involved in the sponsorship or Athletic Training coverage for several worthy causes in our community.
Greater Houston Gymnastics
North Cypress Sports Medicine Center recently provided title sponsorship for the Greater Houston Gymnastics Foundation Golf Tournament through Cypress Academy of Gymnastics, which supports local athletes of all ages and levels of gymnastics.
Cypress Hoops Invitational
The North Cypress Sports Medicine Center was honored to serve as the title sponsor for the Cypress Hoops Invitational benefiting the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation's "Dollars for Scholars" program. This men's basketball tournament in December was made up of 24 teams from Cy-Fair ISD and many other schools across the greater Houston area. The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation continues to maximize our future by providing scholarship funds for qualified students seeking higher education beyond high school and funding instructional grant money for classrooms. The "Dollars for Scholars" program helps fund current programs within the Cy-Fair Independent School District, improving our quality of education. Congratulations to Cy-Lakes High School for winning first place in the tournament.
ImPACT
North Cypress Sports Medicine Center recently provided funding to the Cy-Fair Independent School District to purchase concussion testing software for all 10 CFISD high schools, as well as Waller High School and Cypress Christian High School. The software, called ImPACT, is the first most widely used and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system. ImPACT is a 20-minute test that has become a standard tool used in comprehensive clinical management of concussions for athletes of all ages. The $10,000 grant to access the internet-based ImPACT software is currently being used by the schools for post-injury evaluations to determine appropriateness for return to sports following a concussion.
Beginning in December, the software will be used to conduct baseline testing on all 9th thru 12th grade students participating in contact sports in the upcoming spring and fall semesters. The tests can be administered by any athletic trainer, school nurse, athletic director, team coach, team doctor, or anyone else properly trained to administer this specialized computer test. The ImPACT program measures multiple aspects of cognitive functioning in athletes, including symptoms, attention span, non-verbal problem solving, verbal and visual memory, speed, and reaction time. These results will largely assist clinicians and athletic trainers in making difficult decisions regarding the athlete's safe return to competition following a concussion. In the event that the student suffers a concussion, the results from their baseline are compared with the post-injury results and are made available to the athlete's medical team. In addition to ImPACT testing, North Cypress Sports Medicine Center is offering free baseline and post-injury Biodex Balance testing as part of a comprehensive concussion treatment program to ensure an athlete is appropriate and safe to return to contact sports following a concussion.

Teaming Up For a Cure
North Cypress Medical Center provided the title sponsorship for the Cy-Fair Independent School District's "Teaming Up for a Cure" event, which consisted of two local high school women's basketball games resulting in a $5,000 donation to the Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
"Teaming Up for a Cure" included two Cy-Falls and Cy-Ranch women's basketball games on December 28, 2010, and January 28, 2011. After both teams played two great games, Cy-Falls High School pulled through with the tournament victory. The 2010-2011 Cy-Falls women's basketball team is currently the number one team in the state of Texas.
The $5,000 donation was gathered from North Cypress Medical Center's sponsorship donation, "Teaming Up for a Cure" t-shirt and pink ribbon sales, raffle tickets and student organization donations. Both high schools equally participated in raising money through various student fundraisers.
